Generating an SSL Certificate

An SSL certificate and the corresponding private key need to be created to sign the JWT used for authentication with production credentials. In this section you will find detailed instructions on how to generate the certificate on different systems.

How to Generate a Certificate in a macOS / Linux System

  1. Open a terminal application, for example, terminal.app.
  2. Use OpenSSL to generate a new SSL certificate and a private key with the following command:

    openssl req -x509 -sha256 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout private.key -out adobe-io-public.crt

How to Generate a Certificate in Windows

  1. Download an OpenSSL client for generating public certificates. For example, OpenSSL Windows client.
  2. Extract the folder and copy it to C:\libs
  3. Open Windows Command Prompt and execute the following commands:

    set OPENSSL_CONF=C:/libs/openssl-1.1.1-win64-mingw/openssl.cnf
    cd C:/libs/openssl-1.1.1-win64-mingw/
    openssl req -x509 -sha256 -nodes -days 365 -newkey rsa:2048 -keyout private.key -out adobe-io-public.crt

Once the commands have been executed, two files will be created in the current directory.

  4. Add the private key to the private_key parameter when configuring the credentials.
  5. Add the public key to the Adobe I/O Console.

Important: Keep the private key in a safe location and make sure that access to the file is restricted.

Note: The commands above will generate a certificate that is valid for 365 days. A new certificate must be generated and added to the Adobe I/O Console before expiration to ensure access is not lost.
